Women and media – pitfalls

WMedia is a channel or medium of passing, receiving or assessing information. So it empowers if rightly used by christian women. As christian women, we should therefore cease this opportunity for empowerment, instead of allowing it to mar us and rob us of its given purpose for our lives and homes.

We should be careful not to allow it to rule our life or take possession of us. It should not take the whole of our being,  nor the precious time to spend with our children and husbands. It shouldn’t lure us into sin or any compromise.

The primary purpose of media to Christian women is to glorify God no matter what. Media could be whatsapp, Facebook, television, Instagram to mention but few.

We should be mindful of how we use them if we want to be good examples, most especially to our children and young people around us. For if we give too much attention to it we can’t tell them otherwise, it is life that beget life.

Media if foolishly used, it can mar us in the following circumstances:

  1. When we allow it to be the basis of our lives , that is; wanting to imbibe everything we learnt there and allowing it to rule our lives, for instance East Enders, Coronation street and other programs should not be the platform upon which our homes operates.
  2. When it is allowed to rule our being, in giving more attention and time to it at the expense of our relationship with God and family.  For instance; Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc. when allowed to dictate to us what to do, our actions and not what God desires us in His word, then we are allowing media to rule us.
  3. Another way is when we consult media over any life situation or decisions to make without consulting God, or when we make media our first point of contact for answers to our questions, then we are getting trapped under media.

May we be christian women indeed as we engage media in this our present world. Amen.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. Titus 2:11-12
