THE HIDING PLACE

I had the opportunity to write a report on a book I read recently tagged “The Hiding Placeby John and Elizabeth Sherrill

The Hiding Place, what does it mean? At first, I supposed that it meant the secret room in the house. But now after reading the book, I have come to the conclusion that the hiding place to which the book’s title refers to is not an earthly place. It is Jesus our Lord. He is the Hiding Place.

In the book, Corrie refers to God being her hiding place. She says that there is no safe place on the earth but that he alone is her hiding place. The psalmist many times refers to God as his hiding place. My favourite time would have to be Psalm 17:8 which says, “Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings.”

So many times Corrie finds herself in a situation that she needs help, that she feels frightened and alone, and every time she turns to God who is always there waiting for her to run to him.

How beautiful that every time we are bombarded with this world, we can run to our hiding place, Jesus Christ. It is amazing how he never sends us away, but hides us. It reminds me of Proverbs 18:10 which says,The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

One of my most favourite times that Corrie ran to her hiding place was when her father died. She had been etching the dates in the wall of when those who had been arrested with her were released. When she found out her father was dead she wrote the date he died and before it the date that he was released. How on earth did Corrie come to the realization that her father though no longer alive had been released maybe not back to our world? But in truth, he no longer had to suffer the pain and hurt of our cruel world. Only in the Hiding place could she have come to this conclusion. Here is a poem an unknown person wrote about the hiding place.

The Hiding Place

Have you ever wished, deep down inside,
That you could find a place to hide?
To hide from folks who come your way,
With endless problems day by day?
To hide from all that lies ahead,
The unseen foes and griefs you dread?
To flee decisions you must make,
Avoid the path that you must take?
To run away and find a spot
Where even self can be forgot?

Earth has no place as such you seek —
No place of refuge for the weak;
For ev’ry shelter here on earth
Soon proves to be of little worth
And we are left alone to face
The woes that plague the human race.

But wait! The Rock of Ages — He still stands,
A refuge from all life’s demands;
A place to hide — to weep — to rest;
A place to hover and be blest.

For Jesus is that Rock Who stands
Holding forth His nail pierced hands —
A covert from the storm is He,
Saying, “Come, and hide in Me.”
